Up in Kennebunk, ME to do some work around the house, and ride out Hurricane (probably Tropical Storm) Irene. I'll be posting photos and videos of the storm here.
Saturday; August 27, 2011 08/11 17:38: The proverbial calm before the storm tonight. All the furniture and loose stuff brought in from outside, got all batteries charged etc. Some photos:
Finally, an important safety tip for anyone coming to the beaches to watch the storm..Sunday; August 28, 2011 10:05: Peak of the rain. You can see the marsh filling up and the creek going over its banks, even though it is one hour before high tide. The creek did not fill up as far as it had in other storms - it came nowhere near our deck.
Sunday; August 28, 2011 11:00: High tide. Took a walk down to the beach to see how things were. Coming next: Afternoon visit at the peak of the wind.Sunday; August 28, 2011 15:37 - Gooch's and Middle Beaches at the peak of the wind:
Sunday; August 28, 2011 6:20 PM- Saw a patch of blue sky. Still 20+MPH sustained winds, but looks like it's winding down. I heard earlier that the power is out in my office building, so it looks like I'll be working from Maine on Monday.Good luck to all our friends in CT and MA who don't have power - it sounds like restoration is going to take a few days for everyone to be back on line.
Nice meeting you, Irene - don't hurry back...
